COEMST offers online refreshers for all levels.

All didactic material is completed online, then you'll come to the facility to complete the practical skills.

Required psychomotor exams and the final exam are administered onsite at the COEMST Lexington facility, or the psychomotor exams exam may be proctored by an approved EMS instructor at your department.

Scheduling psychomotor exams requires a minimum of two weeks notice.

NOTE: The Ohio Division of EMS requires that refresher students complete psychomotor exams as part of their refresher program.  Be cautious when when signing up for other online refresher programs as many do NOT include psychomotor exams.

  • What are the steps to enrollment?
    ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR EMT BASIC 1. Application Procedure: A completed application and payment of the $150.00 non-refundable application fee must be submitted. Applications must be downloaded then mailed or emailed back to the program. - Application fee may be paid via check or money order and mailed to 20 Industrial Dr, St F Lexington, Oh 44904. - Let us know if you want to pay by credit card. We'll email you an invoice. There is a 3% fee. - Click here for application 2. Submit a copy of a valid BLS level CPR card with your application that will not expire for the duration of the class time. If you do not have a valid BLS card please indicate on your application whether you will be obtaining one elsewhere. or are enrolled in a Central Ohio EMS Training CPR Course. That course is always held on the first Saturday after the course begins. 3. Purchase required textbook and materials. 4. Set up gmail account if you don't already have one. 5.Set up your free edpuzzle account 6 Purchase Platinum EMS account. Check with the school to get the code. No physical or drug screen required
  • What are the pre-requisites to enrolling in the EMT Course?
    Students must meet the following requirements: -BLS Level CPR card. (If you do not have a valid BLS card please indicate on your application whether you will be obtaining one elsewhere before the course begins, or are enrolled in a Central Ohio EMS Training CPR Course) - 18 years old - Valid DL or State ID - No felonies or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude - No violation of any federal, state, county, or municipal narcotics or controlled substance law EMT students do NOT need to have a HS diploma or GED. There is no pre-test required for this level. There is no background check required for this level.

    Learning Format -ONLINE While you can view lectures and complete your course work at a time convenient to you, the program does have established weekly deadlines. Discussions, quizzes, and homework are all due at various times during a weekly module. Students should plan to invest, on average, 10-20 hours per week in this program. Student attends labs with classroom students from 6pm to 9:30 pm. 14 times on average. Costs* Tuition for the Hybrid 1 course is $2000.00 Includes Psychomotor exam fee and technology fee. Not included: Textbook package, Platinum EMS Testing, class /clinical shirt, NREMT CBT exam fee

    Learning Format -ONLINE This format is for those with medical providers with emergency healthcare experience form the Emergency Department or ICU. While you can view lectures and complete your course work at a time convenient to you, the program does have established weekly deadlines. Discussions, quizzes, and homework are all due at various times during a weekly module. Students should plan to invest, on average, 10-20 hours per week in this program. Students attend approximately 5 to 7 days during the last week of the classroom program. 1 Hospital clinical shift (more if needed) 1 Prehospital clinical shift (more if needed) 1 Final exam day 1 Course final psychomotor exam day 1 State of Ohio psychomotor exam day Costs* Tuition for the Hybrid 1 course is $2600.00 Includes Psychomotor exam fee and technology fee. Not included: Textbook package, Platinum EMS Testing, class /clinical shirt, NREMT CBT exam fee *Students who are not successful on the course skills exams may retake them on the same day. Students must successfully complete the exams to be permitted to proceed. **Students are required to obtain a specific number of assessments and hours. If those cannot be obtained, the student will have to extend their stay. ***Students who are not successful on the final written exam must retake it on a different day. This may cause students to be required to extend their stay. **** Students who are not successful on the NREMT skills exams may retake them on the same day. Students must successfully complete the exam to be permitted to proceed.
  • Who is not eligible to enroll in the web-assisted/hybrid course?
    Student's enrolled through North Central State College or the VA, are not eligible to enroll in the web-assisted/hybrid course and must enroll in the classroom course.
  • When are courses offered?
    COEMST offers three EMT programs per year. The courses run January through April, May through August and September through December. The classes are always held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm until 9:30pm.
  • What costs are not included in the tuition?
    Tuition does not include; Textbook Package COEMST Polos Platinum EMS Testing/Planner NREMT CBT exam fee BLS if needed
  • What supplies are required?
    - B/P Cuff - Stethoscope - Safety Glasses (Click link for example) - 1 box of gloves (latex free) - Laptop with email and internet access - Microsoft Office with at least Word and Power Point
  • Are there any payment plans?
    Payment plans are available for the classroom course only. The $150 deposit is due when you register for the class, then the remainder of the tuition may be paid in two separate payments. The first payment of $725.00 is due 1 week before class begins. The second payment of $725.00 is due one week after the course begins. PayPal Credit is an option for students looking to finance their tuition. You can bring payment to your first class in the form of cash, check or money order. If you want to pay with a credit card, please note that on your application and we will email you an invoice. There is a 3.5% processing fee. If an organization has agreed to pay your tuition, we can also invoice the organization directly. Students who enroll through NC State College may qualify for financial aid.
  • What if another agency is paying for my course?
    If your course is being paid for by an EMS/Fire agency, WIOA, etc, you do not have to submit the application fee as it is included in the tuition that is billed to your agency. It's important for students to know specifically what expenses their agency will pay for.
  • What is the refund policy?
    Refund Policy The application fee is not refundable. Required advance fees including application fees and uniform shirts will not be refunded. Students may receive a refund of tuition if they drop out of the course before the second scheduled session. If a student drops out of the course after the second scheduled session, no refund will be given. The student will be responsible to pay the entire balance even if they withdraw or are dismissed from the program. If a student is sponsored by an agency the agency will be responsible to pay the entire balance even if the student withdraws or is dismissed from the program. If the Institution cancels the program of study before starting classes, any amount paid will be fully refunded including the application fee. The refund policy for NC State students is per NC State policy as all NC State students make their payments to NC State and not to Central Ohio EMS Training.
  • Is COEMST approved to accept WIOA?
    Yes, COEMST is an approved provider for the WIOA program. Student's enrolled through WIOA are not eligible to enroll in the web-assisted/hybrid course and must enroll in the classroom course.
  • What is some important information specific to the Web-Assisted/Hybrid Course?
    The program runs synchronously with the scheduled classroom program. All assignments and deadlines are the same. In this program students complete didactic work online. This includes videos, Power Points, handouts, textbook and workbook assignments and quizzes. Physical attendance in the classroom is required to complete lab / practical skills, the Mid-term exam and the Final exam. Attendance is approximately 14 times throughout the 4-month program on a Tuesday or Thursday evening class from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. Students are encouraged to attend classroom courses whenever possible to have the added benefit of instructor led learning. Students must complete 10 hours and 10 assessments in a clinical setting. This is done in the pre-hospital environment in an agency or department that is contracted with our program. Most of the agencies are within a 60-mile radius of our Lexington location. If you are considering enrolling in the online program, please keep this in mind. It is common to require more than 10 hours to complete all 10 assessments and as a web-assisted-hybrid student you will be required to drive to the clinical location(s). The average clinical time is 30 hours to attain the needed 10 assessments.
  • What is the dress code /uniform policy?
    Healthcare professionals are commonly required to wear uniforms in the workplace, so we require our students to follow a specific dress code. - Central Ohio EMS Training polo (white) - Central Ohio EMS Training polo (blue) You will sign up for the polos on the first day of class - Students are required to wear black or navy blue EMS or Dickie type pants, black belt, and black shoes or boots. You may purchase these anywhere you like. No scrubs or leggings. - This uniform is not required until the second week of class.
  • What resources are included in the textbook package?
    COEMST uses the Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured 12th Edition digital package. This format utilizes an online system called NAVIGATE. Inside NAVIGATE both the classroom and the web-assisted/hybrid students will acces all assignments, quizzes, workbook, videos, PPT's skill sheets, etc. Also included is an E-Book and an Audio book.
  • What is Platinum EMS Testing?
    Platinum EMS Testing is an online testing program used by COEMST to administer validated exams. It is used by COEMST for high stakes exams including module exams and the final exam. It is also an excellent resource and study tool to help students prepare for the NREMT exam. Students must purchase access to Platinum EMS Testing. Click here for Student User Guide.   • What are the clinical requirements?

Additionally students must complete nine adult assessments and one pediatric assessment during their clinical time. This is done in the pre-hospital environment in an agency or department that is contracted with our program. Most of the agencies are within a 60-mile radius of our Lexington location. If you are considering enrolling in the online program, please keep this in mind. It is common to require more than ten hours to complete all ten assessments and as a web-assisted-hybrid student you will be required to drive to the clinical location(s). The average clinical time is thirty hours to attain the needed 10 assessments.
  • What is our pass rate for the EMT level?
    2018 - 98% 2019-100% 2020-100%
  • What is our employment rate?
    100% of COEMST graduates that have chosen to work in EMS are employed.
  • What if I have a felony, a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or a violation of any narcotics or controlled substance law?"
    Potential Applicants with Criminal Convictions Individuals with a criminal record who are interested in obtaining an EMS or fire certification may inquire whether their criminal record disqualifies them from obtaining a certification. If you would like to make a request, you must submit your request in writing, provide details of the criminal conviction(s), and pay a fee of $25. Acceptable forms of payment are either check or money order made payable to the Ohio Treasurer of State. Details of the criminal conviction include: the court where the conviction occurred, criminal case number, statute or ordinance violated, offense name, offense date, conviction date, and the facts underlying the conviction. Certified court journal entries showing the indictment, criminal conviction, and sentencing, as well as the police report related to offense, must be provided to the Division of EMS. Failure to provide these records may result in a delay in processing your request. For EMS certification, the Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services Board may deny any application for any conviction of, plea of guilty to, a judicial finding of guilt for, or a judicial finding of eligibility for treatment and/or intervention in lieu of conviction for: any felony, a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or a violation of any narcotics or controlled substance law.   • What costs are not included in the tuition?
    Tuition does not include; Textbook package - Textbook fees vary according to publisher prices. Students are responsible to obtain the required textbook package by the first day of class.
